The Witch Head Nebula, also known as IC 2118, is a nebula in the Inner Orion Spur approximately 890 ly away from Sol. A frontier enclave was established at the nebula under the direction of Aegis in July 3305 in order to exploit the local Thargoid Barnacles for Meta-Alloys.

Elite Dangerous aims to provide a realistic representation of space, and including nebulae in the game helps to achieve this goal. Nebulae are not only visually captivating but also serve as key elements of stellar formation and galactic ecology. They are the birthplaces of stars, where immense gravitational forces and interstellar material

The Eta Carina nebula is the heart of the Carina Molecular Complex. It's the 'last' of multiple structures in the Complex, whereas other clusters and nebulae lie 'in front' of it when approaching from Sol. It's some thousand light years wide and 9,000 light years from Sol.

Here's an itinerary for a tour of Nebulae in the game Elite Dangerous. This tour will take you through some of the most stunning and famous nebulae in the galaxy:

  1. Departure: Sol System
    • Start your journey from the home system of humanity, Sol. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty of Earth before venturing into the vastness of space.
  2. Orion Nebula (M42)
    • Head towards the Orion Nebula, one of the most famous and easily recognizable nebulae. It's located in the Orion constellation and is known for its vibrant colors and intricate structures.
  3. Witch Head Nebula (IC 2118)
    • Travel to the Witch Head Nebula, situated in the vicinity of the Rigel star system. This eerie nebula is named for its resemblance to a witch's head and is bathed in an ethereal blue glow.
  4. Lagoon Nebula (Messier 8)
    • Proceed to the Lagoon Nebula, located in the Sagittarius constellation. This massive nebula showcases a mix of dark dust lanes, glowing gas clouds, and stellar nurseries, making it a captivating sight.
  5. Eagle Nebula (Messier 16)
    • Continue your journey to the Eagle Nebula, known for the famous "Pillars of Creation." These towering columns of gas and dust are a remarkable sight, often associated with the birth of new stars.
  6. Veil Nebula (NGC 6960)
    • Head towards the Veil Nebula, a supernova remnant located in the Cygnus constellation. This nebula consists of delicate filaments of ionized gas, remnants of a massive star explosion.
  7. Carina Nebula (NGC 3372)
    • Travel to the Carina Nebula, situated in the Carina constellation. This nebula boasts an array of fascinating features, including star clusters, dark clouds, and the stunning Keyhole Nebula.
  8. Heart and Soul Nebulae (IC 1805 and IC 1848)
    • Journey to the Heart and Soul Nebulae, located in the Cassiopeia constellation. These nebulae are adjacent to each other and offer a breathtaking view of glowing hydrogen gas and dust.
  9. California Nebula (NGC 1499)
    • Proceed to the California Nebula, situated in the Perseus constellation. This elongated nebula resembles the shape of the US state of California and is known for its reddish glow.
  10. Pleiades Nebula (M45)
    • Conclude your tour with a visit to the Pleiades Nebula, located in the Pleiades star cluster. This famous nebula is surrounded by a cluster of young, hot stars and is a popular destination for explorers.

Remember to equip your ship with a fuel scoop and essential exploration equipment to ensure a successful journey. Fly dangerously safely and enjoy the wonders of the galaxy!
